    Excellent video. Cannot wait for my reservation to this restaurant. BTW Many did not know that using google map to search for good Japanese restaurant is not the best way, especially if you search in English, as many of the best restaurants are not highlighted in google map in english. It is much better to read the local forum or local food guide for the best results

    This story about Bottura and the Parmigiano wheels is bogus, no one outside the industry knows about his dish and he’s for sure not the reason why the cheese was bought.

    If I go to a three star restaurant, I don't even expect perfection, because that might be subjective for everyone. But make sure that there are no goddamn bread crums on the white table and make sure that I do not get the next dish while I am still eating, that is just rude.

    Love this RUclips channel so much, my favourite of my subscriptions. I would never be able to afford to go to any of these Restaurants really but being from the UK I definitely want to try Core and L'enclume. I think personally this video has the best food out of all the videos and restaurants you have been to. So refined. The way Alexander savours the wine and has a moment with a couple shows someone who enjoys life and savours it. Really inspiring me to do the same. I'm just a home cook but really trying to get better to get some of these flavours in my food. One day maybe. Thank you for the videos Alexander and the team 👍

    Three Stars: The restaurant has exceptional cuisine and thus “worth a special journey” just to visit. Rather than being a stop on the way to a destination, this restaurant is the destination. This restaurant serves distinct dishes that are executed to perfection. They call it "exceptional cuisine". So you have to travel to a country just to eat modern french and european cooking. These critics are true elitists. Have a few tartlets, caviar, champagne, truffle on your menu and voila, the 3 stars are yours

    This seems to be a wickedly consistent and persistently sloppy irritating error of ignorant food people which simply does not happen with knowledgeable Burgundy consumers when describing the wines of Domaine de la Romanee Conti ("DRC"). DRC is the "estate" that makes what many consider the best-in class Burgundy. Personal note: while I have never had anything less than an amazing red wines from the DRC stable, I have found their Montrachet to be generally a garbage product at USD$10K+ that leaves much to be desired (particularly for such an exorbitant price) - Coche Dury, Leflaive (under the helm of Pierre Morey) and Lalou Leroy (d'Auvennay) make far superior white wines (from Chardonnay) at lesser appellation levels than DRC and far lower prices, although luxurious prices nevertheless. DRC mostly produces wines the grand cru vineyards in the town of Vosne-Romanee (which village only makes red wines from Pinot Noir, but I seem to recall one rare exception in white). In this storied village, DRC has an impressive portfolio of grand crus (e.g. Romanee-Conti - with which they own the entire vineyard (a "monopole" or monopoly in English), La Tache (also a DRC monopole), Richebourg, Romanee-St. Vivant, Grand Echezeaux, and Echezeaux - in desceding order of greatness). Indeed, the only grand crus in Vosne-Romanee which DRC does not have holdings are the monopoles of La Romanee (owned by Domaine Liger Belair) and La Grande Rue (owned by Domaine Francois Lamarche). Based on Internet sleuthing, DRC also owns a number of premier cru holdings which consist of parcels of Les Gaudichots (the parcels that did not make it into La Tache), Les Suchots, Petits Monts, and Aux Reignots (I seem to recall they may own some Beaux Monts as well), which they lease out to other producers to farm/make wine; however I note that it appears that none of these grapes make their way into the DRC Vosne-Romanée "1er Cuvée Duvault-Blochet," which seems to consist only of the young vines of their Vosne-Romanee grand cru vineyards - similar to the approach of Comte de Vogue's Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru. For the sake of completeness, I should mention the other holdings of DRC which consist of the following: whites - Montrachet (entirely from the Chassagne-Montrachet side), Batard Montrachet (note: DRC also makes a Bourgogne Hautes-Cotes de Nuits Blanc on behalf of the Abbey de St Vivant), and Corton Charlemagne (acquired from Bonneau du Martray) | reds - Corton (which I believe was also acquired from Bonneau du Martray). The EUR 3k price quoted for a DRC wine is in line with retail bottles of Echezeaux. The bottles of Richebourg and Romanee-St Vivant in the video are about ~EUR 5k retail now. Bottles of La Tache are ~EUR 7k retail now. Romanee Conti bottles are ~EUR 20k. Suffice to say foodies generally have tragically terrible knowledge of wines (particularly of Burgundy) but I find the reverse not to be true. Alex seems to follow suit although he is admittedly better than most.

    so funny we were in japan during the same time you were (or at least when this came out). we only watch this now after our trip. we had dinner in ginza a few times, though not at this kind of restaurant. the japanese bbq at gojoen is worth doing if you ever come back there. although its completely different.

    You know, if you did a second channel that was all about wine I would watch every single episode just like I do this channel. I loved this episode personally, but you risk dividing your audience if some people are only interested in food and not wine. You wouldn't even need to travel all over to do wine content. We could learn so much from whatever is on 42's wine list!
